On International Women’s Day, Let’s Press for Progress in the Ohio Statehouse

Today, March 8, 2018 marks International Women’s Day, a global celebration of the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. On this day, we remember and honor all of the wins that have been made to create gender equality and the trailblazers that have helped pave the way for change. But we must also be looking ahead at the progress on the policy landscape that still needs to be made for women, from pay equity, to full access to reproductive health care services, to access to paid family and medical leave.

That’s why we’re continually advocating for proactive policies at the Ohio Statehouse that help create economic security for women and strengthen families. We’re working with lawmakers to advance legislation that will have a positive impact on the lives of women and galvanizing advocates to join us in the fight for progress.

TAKE ACTION: Help us take action to push for progress on issues that will create change for women and their families. Here are three concrete steps you can take to get more informed about the progress happening here in Ohio and how you can be a part of the movement to push for further change.

1) Get informed: Find out how the Ohio legislature has done to push forward progress on issues affecting women and families. Read our Women’s Economic Security Scorecard – 2017 Progress Report for an update on the bills that the legislature moved last year and the progress we’re hoping to make this year.

2) Take action: Help us push for progress on paid family and medical leave in Ohio. Use our letter writing tool to contact your State Representative and urge them to co-sponsor the statewide Family and Medical Leave Insurance legislation that will be introduced in the Ohio House by Representative Boggs and Boyd.

3) Galvanize your network: Get others activated to take action for gender equality by getting vocal on social media. This year’s theme for IWD is ‘Press for Progress.’ Share this blog post using the hashtag #PressforProgress to share what issue you’re passionate about and how you’re going to fight for progress.
