URGENT LEGISLATIVE ALERT: US House vote on ACA Repeal bill scheduled for TODAY at 3:30 PM

URGENT LEGISLATIVE ALERT

The Republicans’ disastrous bill to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act is scheduled for a vote in the US House TODAY at 3:30 PM.

Under the GOP healthcare plan, 24 million Americans will lose health care. For millions more, health care plans will become much more expensive and provide less adequate coverage.

Last minute changes made to the bill gut protections for pre-existing conditions and eliminate Essential Health Benefits requirements for plans, such as guaranteed maternity and newborn care. Other harmful provisions of the bill affecting women and families include:

  • Deep, permanent cuts to Medicaid and the elimination of Medicaid expansion that threaten coverage for the millions of low-income women and families, pregnant women, women with disabilities, and elderly women that depend on the program for coverage.
  • Blocking federal funding from Planned Parenthood which would deny access to preventative and primary care for millions, particularly low-income women, women of color, and women in rural areas
  • Expanded restrictions on abortion coverage for both public and private insurance plans could potentially dismantle insurance coverage for abortion

TAKE ACTION

Before the vote, reach out to your member of Congress and urge them to vote ‘NO’ on a plan that was rushed through and changed at the last minute without time for public input. Even if you called your Representative earlier this week, it’s important to call again today and make your voice heard.
