THIS LABOR DAY, TAKE ACTION FOR OHIO’S WORKING WOMEN

With Labor Day approaching on Monday, September 4th, it’s important to remember why we celebrate the holiday. Labor Day is meant to honor the contributions and achievements of the American worker and memorialize the fights that workers lead throughout history for better and fairer working conditions.

These fights for fair and flexible schedules, a living wage, and paid leave continue today with women often on the front lines of the battles to advance family-friendly workplace policies. Read more of our Labor Day blog and find out how you can take action here.

STRIVING FOR GENDER EQUITY
Earlier this week, we attended the Columbus Metropolitan Club’s first series of the Mary Lazarus Legacy Forum on Striving for Equity. The forum focused on the work being done in Columbus to create gender equity for women.

The discussion was a reminder that the work for gender equity is far from over, but change is possible thanks to the actions taken by advocates, elected officials, and businesses. Watch the full discussion online here.

#OHLEG ALERT

We are tracking the progress of any state bills affecting women in the Ohio Legislature for the 132nd General Assembly. Since the Legislature is still officially on summer recess, we have no new updates for this week and expect it to be quiet at the state-level until they are back in session.

We will keep tracking any new updates and will be sharing timely legislative updates on these and other women-centric legislation on Twitter using the #OHLeg hashtag. Follow us to stay up-to-date on what’s happening at the Statehouse.

RAISE YOUR VOICE TO DEFEND DACA

The Trump administration is reportedly considering plans to repeal the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA, the Obama-era program that provides the opportunity for young, undocumented immigrants (also known as DREAMers) living in the U.S. since their childhood to live and work legally in the U.S. without fear of deportation.

It has helped nearly 800,000 young people – including more than 4,400 young people in Ohio – come out of the shadows to pursue higher education and participate in the workforce. Ending DACA would be devastating for the hundreds of thousands of DREAMers whose lives would be upended and have a disastrous impact on American businesses and the economy.

Take action: Find your members of Congress here and urge them to protect immigrant youth and take action on the bipartisan DREAM Act of 2017.
